Vice President for Policy Research at the Kyiv School of Economics
Nataliia Shapoval is the President of the KSE Institute, one of the largest think tanks in Ukraine, and the Vice President for Policy Research at the Kyiv School of Economics. She is a member of the Yermak-McFaul International Expert Group on Russian Sanctions and a Member of the Economic Policy Advisory Council to the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.Ms.Shapoval got a Master's degree in Probability Theory and Statistics (2012) from Taras Shevchenko National University, and Master in Economic Analysis (2013) from the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE).
Between 2012 and 2013, Ms. Shapoval was employed as an analyst in a consulting firm and simultaneously engaged in entrepreneurship within the textile industry. Since 2013, she has been an integral part of the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE), ascending in 2016 to lead the policy research branch. Ms. Shapoval served as CEO of KSE from 2019 to 2020, before returning to her leadership role at the KSE Institute, the policy research division of the KSE Group. Her leadership was marked by significant growth, expanding the division from a small team of three analysts to over 60 experts. Since 2014, Ms. Shapoval has been a member of the Editorial Board of Ukraine.
Nataliia also served as a volunteer Executive for VoxUkraine from its launch in 2014 until its institutionalization in 2018.Natalia Shapoval brings a decade of expertise in managing and conducting policy research and consulting, specifically in public procurement, the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors, and the economic statecraft. She has provided advisory services on several governmental strategies encompassing economic and regional development, as well as investment.
Following the full-scale invasion by Russia, Natalia, alongside the KSE Institute team, has been instrumental in offering research-based analytical support focusing on sanctions, war economy and recovery, and assessment of damages caused by the Russian Federation to the Government of Ukraine.Since February 2022, the KSE Institute has also initiated projects including the assessment of damages resulting from Russian aggression (under the initiatives 'Russia will pay' / damaged.in.ua), and the monitoring and analysis of foreign companies' operations in the Russian market, particularly those reducing or ceasing their activities (through the 'SelfSanctions' / 'LeaveRussia' platforms).
